I Did It!

NaBloPoMoFinish

Well folks, we are at the end of November finally and the end of NaBloPoMo. I’m surprised I made it, but glad I was able to get into the habit of blogging daily.

Things I learned include:
* I’m not a blog once a day person. I don’t think I’ll post as frequently, but will post more often now that I am in the habit.
* I enjoyed the challenge of finding something to post once a day, but didn’t enjoy throwing together random posts.
* Too often I waited to the 11 p.m. hour to pull something together. I need to get into the habit of writing at different times of day, especially when I’m not tired.
* My interests are all over the place blogging wise and I want to continue blogging about different things, but I’m not sure how to go about doing so in a clear and concise way. Any suggestions?
* Not having a computer makes blogging challenging as does not having access to a digital camera.
* I need to comment more, which I plan on doing more now that I have my own computer. Comments really make my day!

Thank you to everyone that kept coming back and reading my posts. I love the blogging community and I’m glad to be a part of it. If you participated in NaBloPoMo, what did you learn?

Sunday

Finally resorting to the bullet points and the list. I am not very good at NaBlPoMo, but I’m not going to fail now!

* Stayed in on Saturday and watched “17 Again” with my sister. Zac Efron love.

* In love with my new computer.

* Started cleaning the basement, which has become the catch all place for lots of random junk. Not fun, but needs to be done.

* Went out to watch the first half of the Steelers game. We’re doing much better than expected considering our third string QB is starting.

* How is it practically December? Wasn’t it just Halloween?

* Work at 6 a.m. tomorrow, so this is gonna be short! Nites!

Yay!

I finally got my pretty, fast, new computer! I love it. Still trying to figure out how everything works (like the mouse!), but it is a million times better than the old one. And speaking of the old one, it decided to turn on in the store. Figures! I’m going to reformat it and craigslist it this week. I’m so glad I did not lose all my data – they were able to transfer everything over. Smart, techy people – what do I do to back up my stuff? Advice appreciated!

So excited to step up my blogging and job hunting game now that I have a working computer. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far, I’m off to watch “17 Again” with my sister.

Secret Crushes

I hung out with some high school friends tonight, which is kinda scary, considering our 10th high school reunion is next year around this time. Ahh, am I really that old? The class of ’99 had their reunion tonight. Crazy. I feel old! But, I loved spending time with my old girlfriends gossiping about our secret high school crushes and old friends. Totally a morale boaster and I so needed that tonight.

Did anyone else have a high school secret crush that they never told anyone about? I wonder what would have happened if I fessed up. Did you do “drive bys” of your crush’s house? We did! Too funny. To be young and not have a care in the world, right? Those ere the days.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving blog friends! I hope your day was full of lots of family and friends, good food and endless laughter. I know mine was. I have a lot to be thankful for, including the wonderful folks I’ve met through this little thing called the Internet.

rockwell

Good luck to those brave enough to hit up the mall tomorrow!

No Backing Out Now…

PittsburghHalf

Like my friend Julie, I just signed up for a certain 13.1 mile race here in the Burgh this spring.

I can’t wait to get back into training mode and hope to set a PR at this distance. This will be my third half, crazy!

Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving and good luck to those of you that may be running in races tomorrow a.m.!

Williams-Sonoma Wants

PeppermintBark

One of the things I love most about the holidays comes from Williams-Sonoma. Their Peppermint Bark is to die for. I’m not crazy about peppermint (don’t like candycanes or even mints that much), but this stuff is good. The right combo and balance of chocolate, mint and peppermint. The only downside is the price, but it is so worth it. They’re usually giving out samples in store, so you can try before you buy.

falltowels

And if you are looking for a good gift for someone who is hard to shop for or need a good hostess gift, let me recommend the William-Sonoma’s dishcloths and towels. They are super absorbent, launder well and last forever. They are one of my go-to gifts in a pinch. Plus, you can get them in fun fall colors.

holidaypancakemolds

And how cute are these holiday pancake molds? WANT!

Thanksgiving Recipes

Happy Thanksgiving week folks! I need to make a side and a dessert for Thanksgiving. So far I think I am going to make the Pioneer Woman’s Sweet Potatoes and Martha’s Pumpkin Cheesecake. Not very healthy, but its Thanksgiving and it only happens once a year. I really want to make Brussels sprouts, but I don’t think anyone in my family will eat them.

Anyone else have any other must-make Thanksgiving dishes? I’m all ears!

The Decade in Vanity Fair Covers

In a past life, I was a graphic design major and dreamed of working on the art staff at a major magazine. That’s not the work I’m doing these days, but I still love magazines and graphic design. Vanity Fair is voting on their best covers over the past decade and below are some of my favorites. It looks like I’m drawn to blondes and political royalty. Its interesting to look at all of the covers and see the celebrities featured – most are still famous today and some, not so much.

That “Zsa Zsa Zsu” aka the Butterflies

I’ve been thinking a lot about that “zsa zsa zsu” aka the butterflies in the stomach feeling and relationships these days. It made me think of that Sex and the City episode where Carrie finds out her gay friend is getting married to a woman and says:

When it comes to relationships, maybe we’re all in glass houses, and shouldn’t throw stones. Because you can never really know. Some people are settling down, some are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less. Than butterflies…

And on the same note, do the butterflies come right away or does it take time to develop? Some people are in the its there or its not camp, where as others think it needs a chance to grow as you get to know the person.

I think it can go both ways. I’m told I write off guys too quickly, but I don’t want to settle for anything less than butterflies. Then again, I am the girl who has a pact with one of her closest guy friends to get married if we both aren’t in our mid-thirties, hah.

Your thoughts on the “zsa zsa zsu”?
